“Taina” (acrylic on canvas 16” x 20”) is a piece by Care Center youth artist Jennieliz Lopez.

On her inspiration for the piece, Jennieliz says, “I love my African and indigenous roots. We’re in a situation right now were we are all talking about how black lives matter and there’s no room for us to be racist. We Puerto Ricans have African in us, indigenous Taino blood and European, and we need to acknowledge that. I’m proud of being a Taina and  I’m proud of my African ancestry, as well.”
